Pendaripen means "history" in Romani, and that is precisely the focus of this documentary: a chronicle of one of the most persecuted peoples in Europe. In the film’s captivating footage, we see Roma men and women recount their origins amid the centuries of discrimination and oppression, but also the unique cultural fusion with Black, Christian, and Moorish populations that gave rise to an art form—flamenco. This collective portrait combines historical archives, poetic imagery, original music, and testimonies from writers, essayists, anthropologists, researchers, lawyers, politicians, activists, and artists from this multifaceted ethnic group. On screen, fundamental events such as the Great Roundup of the 18th century and stigmatisation during Francoism are analysed in depth. Pendaripen stands as an exercise in memory and dignity, a pedagogical tool, a political denunciation, and ultimately, a profound celebration of identity.
