LORCA EN LA HABANA

José Antonio Torres, Antonio Manuel | Spain, Cuba | 2025 | 87 min. | O.V. in Spanish

"When the full moon rises, I will go to Santiago de Cuba", wrote Lorca in his celebrated collection Poeta en Nueva York. Less known, however, is his subsequent stay—brief but intense—on the Caribbean island, which left a profound impression on the author. This documentary follows his footsteps/words through the country during a time of creative abundance and daily struggle, making several stops along the way: a theatre performance, both real and fictionalised interviews (with Nicolás Guillén, José Lezama Lima, and ethnologist Lydia Cabrera), recordings of traditional music and dance... all while tracing Lorca's enduring influence on Cuban arts, which can still be felt today. With vibrant, engaging photography and editing that captures the local colour, Lorca en La Habana evokes the poet's happiest days in his personal paradise, portraying the spiritual mestizaje of Spain’s most iconic ambassador.
