EL ÚLTIMO ARREBATO
Forty-five years after the release of Arrebato, this atypical hybrid between documentary and fiction shuns the conventions of both genres to delve deep into the darkest corners of Spain’s sinister cult classic and its accursed creator: in both a prophetic and testamentary twist of fate, director Iván Zulueta, much like his characters before him, would eventually be consumed by cinema and heroin, ultimately disappearing into the dark night. Marta Medina and Enrique López Lavigne craft an intelligent narrative game of Russian dolls around a film portraying the passion/obsession/addiction of cinephilia, featuring revelations from its co-creators and previously unseen Super-8 footage. Mirroring the essence of its muse, El Último Arrebato is a lucid reflection on the inexorable passage of time and how to lose all notion of it by losing oneself within a film: ecstasy in and on the big screen.
