RONDALLAS
The origin of this film lies in a YouTube video featuring a traditional folk band playing in the streets—complete with bagpipes, tambourines, bass drums, and castanets—while covering Thunderstruck by AC/DC. When director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo subsequently decided to immerse himself in the world of traditional music groups from the south of Pontevedra, he discovered "a sense of community, belonging, hope, and emotion". It is this contagious energy he sets out to capture in a dramedy about the ability of a town to overcome loss—in this case, the sinking of a fishing boat. The time has come to reclaim hope and move beyond mourning. Leading the cast is triple Goya-winner Javier Gutiérrez, a man well-versed in delivering uplifting messages on the big screen, with his acclaimed performance in Campeones as a testament.
