MANUEL MACHADO O LA EDAD DE LA POESÍA
It has been 150 years since the birth of Manuel Machado. Overshadowed by the figure of his brother Antonio, just a year younger than him but remarkably prolific and talented, Manuel was one of the most important Andalusian poets and playwrights of the Generation of ‘98. This would lead him to live through and become part of the Silver Age of Spanish literature; and later endure one of the darkest chapters of the country’s history: the Civil War. This painful event would separate him physically from his family and compel him to make decisions that might (perhaps unwillingly) align him closer to the winning side of the conflict, yet with literature’s “losers”. This documentary seeks to restore the legacy of a poet with a strong popular flair and an aesthetic that delves into Andalusian roots while casting doubt on the supposed rivalry between the two sibling writers.
