If we think multitasking is a modern invention, we only need to look at the life of Francisco de Saavedra to debunk it: soldier, spy, minister, royal commissioner for the Americas, and trusted advisor to three kings. This enlightened Sevillian had close connections with Charles III, Charles IV, and Ferdinand VII between the 18th and 19th centuries, not only witnessing his era but playing an influential role in shaping the geopolitical landscape on both sides of the Atlantic. Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, Manuel Godoy, George Washington, and Pablo de Olavide are just a few of the notable figures surrounding this remarkable man of his time. Popular actor and director Alfonso Sánchez (Sembrando sueños) uses the protagonist’s own diaries as the thread of his documentary, a narrative left as a legacy of his fascinating participation in history.
