FRANCISCO DE SAAVEDRA, PUÑO Y LETRA DE LA HISTORIA
We’ve been led to believe that multitasking is a modern invention, but a glance at Francisco de Saavedra’s records dispels this notion: he was a military man, spy, minister, royal commissioner for America and a courtier to three kings. This enlightened Sevillian maintained close relations with Charles III, Charles IV and Ferdinand VII during the 18th and 19th centuries, serving not only as a witness to his era but also as an influential figure in shaping the geopolitical landscape on both sides of the Atlantic. Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, Manuel Godoy, George Washington and Pablo de Olavide are just a few of the illustrious figures who surrounded this remarkable man of his time. The popular actor and director Alfonso Sánchez (Sembrando sueños) draws on the protagonist’s diaries as the thread of his documentary, narrating the legacy of his passionate role in history.
