FIN DE FIESTA
Carmina is a wealthy divorcee who has a comfortable life in the south of Spain. One day, while she is sleeping peacefully – as the rich usually do – a young illegal Senegalese migrant breaks into her house, disturbing her sleep. The only thing that seemingly unites the two is French – a coloniser language for one and a language half-learned in a private school for the other – but Carmina decides to hide the young man from the police. Carmina’s generosity becomes tainted with darker intentions, while the solidarity of the humble classes emerges between the newcomer and the maid of the house. Elena Manrique, one of Spain’s most outstanding producers (Cell 211, Pan’s Labyrinth), makes her directorial debut with a moving story in which humour and vulnerability serve as vehicles to address privilege and racism.
