After making his directorial debut with the acclaimed series El Hijo Zurdo, two-time Goya-winner and Alberto Rodríguez’ go-to screenwriter, Rafael Cobos steps into the world of feature filmmaking with a fresh take on the cine quinqui of the 1980s. Luis Tosar and Jesús Carroza play two brothers: one a police officer, the other a recently released convict who reunites with his old gang to rob banks, jewellery shops, and the area's first casino. Local electronica legend Bronquio brings a rave-inspired soundtrack to this “heist thriller about blood ties and memory”, as described by the director himself. While the original genre may have been characterised by the raw, the direct, and the explicit, Cobos’ tribute is far more subtle, paying close attention to an often contradictory context of confusion amid Spain's transition to democracy.
