PLAZA NUEVA A LAS DIEZ
Strolling through Granada’s Plaza Nueva at dusk, the filmmaker Carmen Tortosa (once a student of Portuguese master Pedro Costa) is just one of many who happened upon a curious scene: each week, as the sun sets, this central square is brought to life through dance. From her regular attendance at the event, this documentary was born, following an eclectic dancing community (ranging from their 50s to early 80s) as they share a joyful, vibrant physical language. Shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio, the film’s intimate style captures the sensory richness of their movements and the dynamism of their bodies gliding through the warm evening air. It also brings to light the unique personal stories that lead the camera into a less public realm. Spirited and uplifting, Plaza Nueva a las Diez is infused with the same vitality as those who arrive at ten o’clock sharp for their weekly rendezvous.
