ELLAS EN LA CIUDAD
Doctor in architecture and researcher on sustainable urbanism with a gender perspective, Reyes Gallegos found inspiration for this eye-opening documentary in her photographic project #ellasenlaciudad, which focuses on five women living on the outskirts of Seville. Through snapshots of the daily lives of Juana, Victoria, Natividad, Toñi, and María Dolores, this evocative and timely film illustrates how the design of urban space has neglected their needs and the realities of their neighbourhoods—where they work tirelessly, fighting battle after battle, for the common good. In this documentary it is the women’s actions that spark political reflection, rather than the other way around, capturing each small victory they achieve through pure self-management. A sharp, critical portrayal of grassroots activism on the periphery, Ellas en la ciudad shows us that the heart of a city is not always found at its centre.
