LOS PINCELES DE LA BARONESA
This fascinating documentary paints an up-close and personal portrait of one of the country's greatest forgers, infamous in the art of imitating art. A genius who devoted his talent to crime, “La Baronesa” duped collectors and museums worldwide by passing off highly lucrative fakes as originals. Captivated by his ability to emulate the brushstrokes of masters such as Velázquez, Picasso, El Greco, and more, journalist Julio Muñoz conceived this noir-inspired documentary, written and directed with Mauricio Angulo, after discovering the story of Eduardo Olaya, aka La Baronesa. Blending detective intrigue with investigative journalism, Los Pinceles de la Baronesa weaves a story set against the backdrop of 1960s Seville, while diving deep into the murky waters of the art world. Taking inspiration from Orson Welles’ F for Fake, this thought-provoking documentary raises questions around whether forged creation might well deserve the same admiration as the original.
