Winner of the Audience Award at Venice Critics' Week, the debut feature from acclaimed contemporary artist Imran Perretta marks the arrival of a major new talent in European Cinema. On the cusp of adolescence, Ish and Maram spend their days in a London suburb watching TikTok, riding bikes and building forts in the woods, until a police raid drives a wedge between them. The British Bangladeshi filmmaker explores this rupture with sensitivity and immediacy, set within the unsettling context of institutional racism that looms over Muslim and Asian communities, amplified by the ongoing news from Gaza. Co-written with Enda Walsh (Die My Love, Small Things Like These), this visceral coming-of-age tale of masculinity and identity under construction soars with its dynamic handheld camerawork and striking black-and-white cinematography, transcending social realism to morph into a visually lyrical experience.
