GOD WILL NOT HELP
| - | NERVION 4 | Comprar o canjear |
This tense, enigmatic period drama—think Wuthering Heights in early 20th century rural Croatia—takes on an air of crepuscular neo-Western as it unfolds. A Chilean woman, equal parts devout and defiant, arrives in a remote shepherding community in the heart of the Dalmatian hinterland to bury her late husband’s remains in his native soil. Manuela Martelli and Ana Marija Veselčić won Best Performance at Locarno for this captivating drama, a portrayal of the chasm separating the outsider—embodying the promise/threat of empathy—from the structural violence of a system deeply rooted in ownership and possession. Following the critically acclaimed Quit Staring at My Plate, Hana Jušić returns to the big screen with a tale of suppressed emotions and unspoken tensions in which two women (called witches by some) find freedom in helping one another, as—spoiler alert—God will not help.
