DRIFTING LAURENT

Mattéo Eustachon, Léo Couture, Anton Balekdjian | France | 2025 | 110 min. | O.V. in French, subtitles in Spanish and English
- C. AVENIDA

Beneath the serene surface of this existential comedy pulses a profound sense of humanity, as a young man with no clear direction in life finds himself going round in circles at a deserted ski resort. Laurent’s unstoppable search for connection—regardless of age or gender—leads him into intimate and often bizarre encounters with the handful of residents (including the legendary Béatrice Dalle) left behind in town, united by a shared yearning for solace. In a contemporary fable with shades of naturalism, Laurent’s encounters reflect the loneliness of modern life and the need to rebuild a sense of community in a world dominated by compulsive productivity. The camera drifts through vast, open spaces echoing with silence—somewhere between the cinema of Alain Guiraudie and Éric Rohmer—amplifying the miracle of human relationships in a world that can often seem devoid of connection.
