The first edition of IFMA, The Independent Film Market, will have 13 independent distributors and more than 60 exhibitors and programmers

Ten projects will participate in the European Co-productions forum November 8th and 9th, having Germany as a guest country

Seville, November 2nd, 2021.- Seville’s Festival recovers the face-to-face nature of its Industry section in this 18º edition, which will take place between November 8th and 13th and will be considered again one of the most important, annual meeting points of the European film market. More than 300 professionals will meet in Seville to participate in the activities programmed, which are meant to boost production, distribution, film releases, the training in different audiovisual disciplines and equality in European film.

Catalyst for Distribution and Film Release

One of the main events of SEFF INDUSTRIA will be Seville’s Independent Film Market, Seville’s IFMA, a pioneering project on the national level and created with the collaboration of the Cinematographic Independent Distributors Association (CINEIDA). From November 10th to 12th, 25 films will be exclusively screened for exhibitors and TV-content managers, and commercialized by 13 independent distributors, grouped in CINEIDA, their release being expected for December 2021 to autumn 2022 in Spain. The beginning of this market, which is meant to encourage the exhibitor-distributor relationship, will be honoured with the presence of Beatriz Navas, head of Visual Arts and Cinematography Institute (VACI); Miguel Morales, president of CINEIDA; Silvia Lobo, president of the next original art-house and independent film distributors association; Luis Gil, president of Spanish Cinemas Federation (SPACIF); Juan Antonio Mayoral, president of Spanish Cinema Exhibitors New Association (SPACIENA) and Ramiro Ledo, president of PROMIO, independent-film exhibitors network presented in 2020 in the last SEFF, which will celebrate its yearly meeting November 9th during the festival.

On the other hand, it is important to point out that Europa Cinemas, the cinema network created in 1992 and specialized in art-house and European film, is back for another year to organize an Innovative Laboratory for the Development of Exhibitor’s Market, and a seminar named Revitalize the cinema participation through collaboration, ran by Madeleine Probst and Frank Groot.

From November 10th to 12th, SEFF will have the Europa International yearly assembly, the main European network of art-house sales agents and distributors, having 46 members from 15 different countries. Among the confirmed agents there are representatives of important companies such as Coproduction Office, Charades, Films Boutique, Les Films du Losange, New Europe Film Sales, The Match Factory, TrustNordisk o Wild Bunch.

Boost to co-production with Europe

After the success of the two first editions dedicated to Italy and Portugal, European Co-productions will be back November 8th and 9th focusing on Germany with two awards for the projects to be presented: the Seville’s Festival Award, endowed with 5000 euros for the development of the winning project, and the Arte Sonora Studio Award, which will give 5000 euros in postproductions services (editing and audio production). 10 projects will participate, five of them being from Germany (Die Gäste (The guests) by Stefan Butzmühlen and Cristina Diz Muñoz; Electric Sleep by Zeynep Dadak; It´s a sad and beauty world by Cyril Aris; Sultana´s dream by Isabel Herguera and The arabic interpreter by Ali Kareem Obaid) and five from Spain (A la cara by Javier Marco; Diógenes by Roger Gual; Matria by Álvaro Gago; Manantial by Manuel Muñoz Rivas and On the go by Maria Royo Barrera y Julia de Castro). In this edition, the co-production forum will be honoured with the presence of Beatriz Navas, head of VACI; Peter Dinges, head of FFA (German Federal Film Board), and representatives from German Films and Germany and Spanish local funds, which will work for the boost of co-productions between these two countries.

With the objective of reinforcing the co-production capacities of Spanish and Andalusian producers with Europe, Europa Creativa Media Desk Andalucía will organize the event EAVE ON DEMAND Sevilla from November 8th to 10th. The authorized professionals will be able to enjoy master classes carried out by prominent international experts such as Clare Downs, scripts consultant; Oliver Damian, a producer from Frankfurt and founder of 27 Films Productions, or Aranka Matits, a marketing and distribution expert and founder of Featurette, specialized agency in the acquisition of feature films, co-productions and the development of distribution strategies.

Gender Equality and Education

Women in Focus and the Andalusian Association of Women from the Audiovisual Media (AAWAM) will participate in this festival edition carrying out two master classes on November 9th, where a varied range of topics will be discussed under a gender perspective. Sessions will be ran by Gloria Bretones, head of Begin Again Films, and Ana Sánz-Magallón, script consultant and analyst from 1996, author of the book Cuéntalo bien, el sentido común aplicado a las historias, a true reference for the Spanish-speaking scriptwriters.

Furthermore, the Festival will develop a Mentoring program for filmmaking students from November 5th to 13th, in close collaboration with ECAM and the Camilo José Cela University’s Degree on Film and Fiction, as well as with La Incubadora, participants of the 2021 edition.
