WOMEN IN FOCUS is the space designed by the Andalusian Association of Women in Audiovisual Media (AAMMA) for each edition of SeFF. This year, they wanted to dedicate it to the relationship between music and cinema.
The proposal consists of a day with two distinct sessions: a more technical part, related to contracts, licenses, rights management, etc., led by experts from SGAE; and a more dynamic part, which will address the creative process with two members of AAMMA who will contribute their perspective on musical direction and composition, and their joint work on an audiovisual project.
The aim of this conference is to provide accurate and comprehensive information on all the legal issues that must be taken into account when incorporating musical content into an audiovisual work and to raise awareness of the work of female music composers and their creative process in relation to audiovisual works. Through all this, we also aim to highlight, promote, and champion the work of female creators, fostering synergies among female professionals in Andalusia.
SESSION 1 - 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. | ‘SGAE Audiovisual: Beyond Copyright’, 'Music in Film: Rights, Licenses, and Other Legal Aspects'
How do I add music to my short film? Who do I need to contact to include that hit song in my movie's soundtrack? Should I talk to the record label, the artist, the songwriter...? How much will it cost? Everything you always wanted to know about music rights and film but were afraid to ask, or didn't know who to ask.
With the participation of Marta Tarín Cañadas, audiovisual specialist at SGAE, Emilio Rodríguez Cascajosa, head of the SGAE Andalusia Foundation, and María Mateo Orobia, lawyer at SGAE Legal Services.
SESSION 2 - 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. | 'Listening to cinema, seeing music: creating a soundtrack'
How is a soundtrack created? Direction and composition, a journey of back and forth. Rocío Mesa and Paloma Peñarrubia will explain and demonstrate how the process of designing and creating a soundtrack is carried out, the exchanges between directing and composing, based on the joint work that the two filmmakers did for Secaderos. Do you direct films and are looking for a soundtrack? Do you compose for films? Are you planning to do so? This session is for you.
