VITTORIA
Co-produced by Nanni Moretti, this film by Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman came into being on the set of Californie (double award winner at the Giornate degli Autori at Venice), where they were introduced to Marilena Amato and her personal story: that of a mother of three sons who, at the age of 40, dreams of having a daughter at any cost. While this sincere desire is heartfelt, it is also capricious and questionable by almost everyone, including her own family. Vittoria casts a gaze filled with humanity and sensitivity towards its characters – non-professional actors portraying their own lives – who are marked by their defects, doubts and fears within the uncertain yet crucial realm of adoption. An emotional rollercoaster, the chaotic trajectory of which is vividly captured in this intense and realistic film, which is concise and, by the end of this journey, luminous.
