PREFIRO CONDENARME
In 1972, a female shellfish worker from Ferrol was tried for adultery – one of the so-called “women’s crimes” deemed unacceptable by the Franco regime and resulted in incarceration, either in prison or a psychiatric hospital. Subject to all kinds of abuse from the age of 16, thanks to her firm class conscience, she rebelled against her husband and social oppression, until she became the first divorced woman in the city. This documentary traces pieces of this struggle for freedom through its real and symbolic settings, personal and official archives surrounding Sagrario’s case, and the three actresses who play her, including Melania Cruz (Ons, Arima). After her acclaimed film Nación (SEFF 2020 award-winner), Margarita Ledo Andión once again puts women in the spotlight and portrays desire as an act of civil disobedience.
