LAS MUERTES DE CHANTYORINTI
In an Amazonian community protected from contact with outsiders, a sad, masato-drunk Asháninka man longs for news of his three sons who left for the city years ago, when his youngest son asks him what is keeping him “among the living”. A magical journey begins in which, the father, through various states of perception and reverie, seeks to bestow upon his son the ability to see the invisible. The world premiere of the third feature film by Hermes Paralluelo (Yatasto, Not All is Vigil) explores the passing down and meticulous recording of ancestral knowledge and rites as they face extinction. The absolute rigour of the 4:3 staging envelops this experiential and sensorial documentary, in the vein of Lois Patiño or Eloy Enciso, exploring the many lives contained within this cosmovision of another time and space.
