IL MIO POSTO E QUI
In a small Calabrian village in the aftermath of World War II, a single mother takes the lead in this coming-of-age tale—a timely reminder that “coming-of-age” doesn’t have to end at adolescence. Set in 1945 against the backdrop of Italy’s first year of women’s suffrage, a narrative spurred on by emancipation and empowerment reveals the connection between local women and the LGBTQ+ community in their shared fight for civil rights. Leading character Marta finds an unlikely ally in the town’s wedding planner, discovering he enjoys greater freedom in his clandestine life than she does in her own. Il Mio Posto é Qui reveals the hidden gay community of rural post-war Italy, a world far removed from the vibrant, colourful clichés of queer spaces often seen on the big screen.
