In 2020, following the global pandemic, which had catastrophic effects on cultural industries and unequal consequences for the different sectors that make up the audiovisual industry—closed movie theaters, difficulties in producing content, but a surge in streaming consumption, to name a few—and in light of the recovery plans approved by the European Union, the Spanish government has taken the unprecedented decision among all EU members to reserve part of the funds not only for the recovery of the audiovisual industry, but also for its transformation and enhancement. In 2021, the Plan to Promote the Audiovisual Industry, “Spain: Audiovisual Hub of Europe,” was approved and presented, initially with a budget of more than €1.6 billion. The following four years have seen the implementation of most of the measures adopted and a change in the landscape of the audiovisual industry. In 2025, the second season will begin.
Speaker:
José María Valls, Head of the Support Unit of the Directorate-General for the Regulation of Digitalization and Audiovisual Communication Services.
