The SGAE Foundation, the ALMA Screenwriters' Union, the Forum of Audiovisual Screenwriters' Associations (FAGA), and the Audiovisual Media Copyright Entity DAMA present the study 'The Screenwriting Profession in Spain', created by the University Institute of Spanish Cinema at Carlos III University in Madrid under the direction of Professor Concepción Cascajosa. This report analyzes the social and labor situation of screenwriters for films, series, programs, and documentaries in our country, addressing aspects such as the demographic characteristics of the sector, the training and experience of its professionals, working conditions, access to the profession, and the main obstacles they face.
This study is based on a survey of more than 500 screenwriters, supplemented by 40 in-depth interviews, and stems from the commitment of the entities representing the sector to gain an in-depth understanding of its reality in order to promote improvements and support policies. Among other issues, the research highlights a significant gender gap and a strong territorial imbalance, as well as the persistence of problems such as harassment and difficulties in balancing work and family life.
With this publication, the organizations involved reinforce their commitment to raising the profile of the screenwriting profession and promoting a fairer and more equitable environment, in line with the SGAE Foundation's track record and its initiatives in favor of equality and diversity in culture.
