TRES KILÓMETROS HASTA EL FIN DEL MUNDO

In a remote Danube Delta village, a young man suffers a brutal homophobic attack that sparks widespread alarm, particularly among those who uphold the decency and traditional values governing the community, starting with his parents. Winner of the Queer Palm at Cannes, this absorbing intrigue, presented in an ascetic and tense manner – representative of new Romanian cinema – plays with ellipses and off-screen, suggesting the silence surrounding certain matters. Silviu Stavilã’s panoramic photography shows the wetland landscape in all its splendour and in contrast with human hostility, reflected by the parents played with realism by Bogdan Dumitrache (Sieranevada) and Laura Vasiliu (4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days). A parent’s love for a child is meant to be unconditional – or at least that’s what this painfully profound film leads us to believe.
