In this documentary portrayal of the legendary flamenco dancer Farruquito, his own story blends elements of joy and tragedy in a case of life mirroring the art of flamenco itself. Hailing from a dynasty that helped shape contemporary flamenco, his grandfather was the great Farruco—one of flamenco’s most innovative bailaores—and his teenage son Juan El Moreno is already on stage performing to audiences across the nation. Acclaimed production duo Santi Aguado and Reuben Atlas create a rich, intergenerational narrative around this universally captivating and uniquely expressive gitano legacy. At the heart of the documentary lies the eternal search for creative genius and the elusive magic of el duende, with all the light and shade that come with them. The jondura—or emotional depth—of this tale of rise and fall, of guilt and redemption, is amplified by a talented team including Igor Martinovic (Man on Wire) as director of photography and editor Pablo Gil Rituerto (Lúa Vermella).
