The director of this fiction – the big winner at the Malaga Festival – says that this is not the official film about Los Planetas because they were never officially anything. In The Legend of Time he followed the iconic flamenco singer Camarón, here Isaki Lacuesta (Goya Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for One Year, One Night) tries to capture the atmosphere in which, in the late 1990s, a fundamental and foundational Spanish indie album was conceived – an album that shaped Spanish music for a whole generation of “incomplete people”, as their lyrics go. With more fable than fidelity to facts that, like all memories, are malleable, the film captures the yearning for expression and the identity crisis of a group on the brink of either imploding or performing a miracle. Yet, as with all legends, what truly matters is not what happened, but the emotions that shaped them.
