LA TUTORÍA
A six-year-old boy is accused of overstepping certain boundaries with a classmate and the school management calls in both sets of parents to talk it over. Shrouded in awkwardness and innuendo, the parental struggle for an elusive truth begins to unfold, in what was awarded Best Debut Film at Cannes. Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel crafts a psychological drama that is as controversial as it is unpredictable, appearing as a direct descendant of Buñuel or Vinterberg in its ability to push the boundaries of the disturbing, all while maintaining aesthetic rigour and incorporating elements of cruel satire. Renate Reinsve (aka The Worst Person in the World) commands the screen playing a protective mother on the verge of collapse in the film’s sole location: a school transformed into a claustrophobic and choreographic stage where moral and social limits, as well as impulses of the body and mind, are negotiated.
