Richard Billingham
Born in Birmingham in 1970, he is a prominent photographer, visual artist and filmmaker. His work has been exhibited at the Tate, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among many other places, and he is the author of several monographic books. One of the first highlights of his career was the book Ray’s A Laugh (1996), based on photographs of his family and the impoverished environment where he grew up. His father would also be the protagonist of his first video, Fishtank (1998). Ray & Liz, his first feature film, also recovers memories of his parents and childhood. The film won the Special Jury Prize at Locarno where it was premiered.
