With a Special Mention from the jury at Copenhagen’s prestigious CPH:DOX, Lucía Selva’s debut feature is a profound aesthetic exploration of her home city. For two centuries, the iconic Chorrojumo—once “King of the Gypsies”—has wandered the labyrinthine streets of Granada, until he encounters a young Moroccan man who asks for his help in finding the home of his ancestors. Permeated by mysterious images and evocative soundscapes, this docufiction blurs the lines between past and present, real events and local legends, as it documents a dual process of destruction: the homogenisation of cultural identity and the obsessive preservation of monumental heritage as a consumer product. In the context of a widespread housing crisis and rampant gentrification, the young filmmaker casts a visual spell over these layers of history in both a love letter and a farewell to her beloved city.
