PARIS, TEXAS
Forty years have passed since this cult classic was released, and it remains suspended in time as the most iconic work of German filmmaker Wim Wenders (Perfect Days, Wings of Desire). Based on a poignant screenplay by Pulitzer Prize winner Sam Shepard, the film follows a man (Harry Dean Stanton, sporting a red cap and suit) who appears in the middle of the Texan desert with no identity or memory. His mission: to discover why he abandoned his son and wife (Nastassja Kinski, in her iconic fuchsia angora sweater).
A triple winner at Cannes, this dusty, existentialist road movie features the cinematography of Robby Müller (inspired by artists like Edward Hopper and Joel Meyerowitz) and the unforgettable slide guitar of Ry Cooder (Buena Vista Social Club) to enrich a story about mistakes, wounds, and the resulting loneliness. With memorable dialogue and a heartbreaking beauty, Paris, Texas is a film that never ends.
