MODI - THREE DAYS ON THE WING OF MADNESS

The turbulent life of painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani (“Modi” to his friends), portrayed in Ophüls and Becker’s classic Montparnasse 19, is distilled into the 72-hour maelstrom that this film recreates. In Paris during the Great War, as he contemplates giving up everything, Modi’s encounter with an art patron becomes a turning point in his rise to legendary status. Italian Riccardo Scamarcio (Three Floors), who has already portrayed Caravaggio, takes on the role of another tortured genius, capturing his internal struggles and clashes with the world that failed to appreciate his talent. The cast also includes Stephen Graham (Boiling Point) and Al Pacino, who began to ruminate on this cursed project decades ago and co-produced the film, marking Johnny Depp’s return to directing after The Brave (1997), which tells the story of a man consumed by the madness of art and rejection.
