Four distant cousins find themselves heirs to a long-abandoned house in rural Normandy. As they take stock of the property, to their surprise they discover a link to a mysterious ancestor from Belle Époque Paris. This enchanting tale of family history and heritage unfolds seamlessly between two worlds, a journey through images past and present coinciding with the advent of photography, Impressionism and cinema itself. Displaying his usual talent for capturing the essence of his characters, Cédric Klapisch weaves together the threads of family history and art history in this ambitious period drama with themes of memory and portrayals of reality at its core: in the end, just similar ways of leaving a lasting impression. Brimming with wit and optimism, not to mention a stellar ensemble cast (Suzanne Lindon, Vincent Macaigne, Julia Piaton...), this delightful ode to The Best of Youth is an invitation to gaze fondly to the past and reconsider its many nuances, with the hope of leading us to a brighter future.
