Fabrice Aragno, two-time award-winner at Locarno for his debut feature, previously collaborated with Jean-Luc Godard during the last two decades of the legendary filmmaker's career. In Aragno's latest feature we follow a woman and man united by loss as they embark on a high-stakes sailing regatta on Lake Geneva. Spanning several days and nights, this nautical drama punctuates tension and adventure with moments of dead calm. Sparing in words, the film portrays landscapes as characters and bodies as stages in an exploration of one couple's—Clotilde Courau (Best Actress, SEFF 2015) and professional sailor Bernard Stamm—struggle against the elements. Using the vast expanse of water to express the unspeakable in the form of a canvas akin to Turner or Courbet, the Swiss filmmaker offers the audience an ultra-immersive experience, inviting us to surrender to the wonder of the senses.
