LA GUITARRA FLAMENCA DE YERAI CORTÉS

After starring in the music documentary This Excessive Ambition (Goya Award nominee), Antón Álvarez – aka C. Tangana – makes his directorial debut in the same genre with this project born out of “overwhelming sadness”. The virtuoso duende of the flamenco guitarist Yerai Cortés captivates El Madrileño, who documents the young maestro’s attempts to balance tradition and innovation, even as some accuse him of being too hipster or too gitano. An almost untold family tragedy, revealed only through his songs, serves as the impetus for this film, which explores the artist’s intimate space – where love and forgiveness reside – and his creative process. The documentary received a a Special Mention in the New Directors section at San Sebastian.
