Out on the desolate Andean plateau, the fall of a mysterious meteorite connects two moments in time. In the 18th century, a man returns to his hometown to join the Great anticolonial Rebellion of Túpac Amaru II; while back in the 21st century, a young llama herder searches for her sister who disappeared fighting the contamination caused by a mining company. Daniel Vidal Toche’s stunning debut feature explores the meaning of revolution over the centuries, through to its current dismantling, in a daring, necessary exercise in rewriting history and decolonising the gaze through cinema. In a contemplative yet profoundly activist portrayal of his country’s history and evolution, the Peruvian filmmaker captures a nation marked by the unrelenting desire for change: burned into the collective retina as indelibly as the images of a film.
