JULIAN
Fleur and Julian fall hopelessly in love and decide to get married in every country where same-sex marriage is legal. Driven by an escalating sense of urgency, the couple set off on a whirlwind world tour with their sights set on marrying in 22 different countries. But after just four ceremonies, their journey comes to an abrupt and painful end. This original adaptation of artist and performer Fleur Pierets' memoirs reflects on our mortality, quality of life and the nature of romantic relationships. With a striking non-linear narrative, the film pieces together fragments of memories, interspersing them with images filmed by the characters themselves. Cato Kusters’ debut feature comes with the support esteemed sibling duos of the Dhonts and the Dardennes, titans of Belgian auteur cinema.
