THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT
O.V. in English subtitled in Spanish
Lars von Trier is accompanied by Matt Dillon, Bruno Ganz and Uma Thurman in this overflowing, twisted, very black comedy with which he returned to Cannes years after being declared persona non grata because of his controversial statements. Jack is a serial killer who accumulates bodies in a walk-in freezer while he tries to build his dream house. Meanwhile, he dialogues with the voice of his conscience, and makes more and more clumsy mistakes in his crimes. All is mixed with paintings, images from his own films and those of others, animated interludes, Glenn Gould and even images, yes, of the holocaust.

Lars von Trier
Born in Copenhagen in 1956, Lars von Trier is one of the most influential directors in world cinema since he founded the Dogma 95 movement along with Thomas Vinterberg. He started making films on Super 8 in his childhood, and jumped onto the international scene with his “European trilogy”: The Element of Crime (1984), Epidemic (1987) and Europa (1991). In 1992 he founded his own studio, Zentropa, from where he produces all his films. In 1996 he released Breaking the Waves, which won the Special Jury Award at Cannes, and in 1998 The Idiots. Other important tiles in his filmography are Dancing in the Dark (2000), nominated for the Oscars and winning the Best Actress Award at Cannes for Björk, Dogville (2003), Best Director Award at EFA, Antichrist (2009), Best Actress at Cannes for Charlotte Gainsbourg, an award which Kirsten Dunst also won for Melancholía (2011), and Nymphomaniac: Vol. I and Vol. II (2013). The House that Jack Built is his latest film.
