Valeria Golino
She was born in Naples in 1965 and grew up between that city and Athens, where she began her career as a model. She is one of the best known Italian actresses internationally. She began as an actress in 1983 with the director Lina Wertmüller. Since then she has developed an extensive filmography as an actress, becoming world famous with her roles in Rain Man, Four Rooms and Hot Shots! She has worked with directors such as Margarethe von Trotta, Jerzy Skolimowski, Mike Higgis, John Carpenter and John Frankenheimer, among others. She began directing in 2010 with the short film Armandino e il Madre, which was shown at festivals such as Rome and Locarno, and won a Nastro d’Argento. Her first feature film was Honey (2013), which began its long, award winning career in Cannes, where it won the Ecumenical Jury Award. She premiered her latest film, Euphoria, at that same festival in the section Un Certain Regard.
