EL INFIERNO

A seductive and wild Emmanuelle Béart plays the epitome of a femme fatale in Hell. Originally a project by Henri Georges Clouzot, which he never managed to finish: the initial protagonist, Serge Reggiani, fell ill and was replaced by Jean-Louis Trintignant; later, Clouzot suffered a heart attack that prevented the project from going ahead. In 1992, Clouzot's widow sold the script to Claude Chabrol, who was finally able to tell his vitriolic vision of the human miseries at the hands of the bourgeoisie through this story of a "happy marriage", composed by Nelly and Paul, which is deteriorating as Paul falls prey of jealousy due to his belief that his beautiful wife is sleeping with everyone.
