EL CIRCO DE LOS MUCHACHOS. Sesión #1 (E1 y E2)
This five-part documentary miniseries is a world premiere, produced by a creative dream team: filmmaker Elías León Siminiani (Giraldillo de Oro for the documentary Map, and Goya for his recent medium-length film Emotional Architecture1959) directs this Prime Video project co-written with screenwriter Pepe Coira (creator of the acclaimed series Rapa and Hierro). The docuseries tells the story of the rise and fall of the “nation of boys” created by Father Jesús Silva – aka “El Cura” – in an Orense neighbourhood during Franco’s Spain in the 1950s, with its own currency and passport, as well as an educational plan for underprivileged children, which would culminate in a circus show whose world tour even reached Madison Square Garden. A bizarre tale drawn from unpublished footage that reveals this utopian and megalomaniacal project.
