DRAGONFLY
Outraged by the inadequate care her elderly neighbour receives from social services, unemployed Colleen offers to take care of her. But as suspicions around her motives grow, a horrific event triggers a devastating escalation of violence. Two-time BAFTA winner Paul Andrew Williams expertly builds rising tensions and mounting uncertainty in a drama steeped in social grit and psychological terror, skilfully avoiding the clichés of both genres. Premiering at Tribeca with its two leads winning awards, a nuanced mise-en-scène paired with harrowing performances from Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie, Possessor) and Brenda Blethyn (London River, Secrets and Lies) lend the film a deeply unsettling edge. Dragonfly offers a chilling one-door-down tale of dependence and distrust in a society mired in malaise.
