RENOWNED FILMMAKERS COLLABORATE WITH THE SEFF TO PROMOTE FILM EDUCATION

Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Inés París, Fernando Franco, Judith Colell and Alberto Morais, among others, participate in a valuable virtual archive of pedagogical resources for the educational community

Artists such as Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Inés París, Fernando Franco, Judith Colell, and Alberto Morais, among many others, join the 17th Seville European Film Festival by actively participating in its educational program. These renowned directors and film editors contribute their expertise to an online repository of educational resources provided by the festival on the website www.seffeducacion.eu, aiming to bring cinema closer to the educational community and young audiences. To do so, the filmmakers have created a series of audiovisual capsules, ranging from tutorials to personal interviews, in which they share and explain their secrets, experiences and keys to understanding cinema.

The section From the Editing Room stands out, where renowned specialists such as Mercedes Cantero, Meritxell Colell, Manuel Múñoz Rivas, Fátima de los Santos and Fernando Franco -nominated for a Goya award thanks to the editing of Que dios nos perdone y Blancanieves- explains, in a series of didactic videos, the importance of time, the out-of-field concept and shooting times using several recently released films as samples. This is valuable material made specifically for the Seville Festival thanks to a collaboration agreement with the Association of Audiovisual Editors of Spain (AMAE)

Another block, titled Directing in the First Person, features several filmmakers with solid careers who tell their first experiences in the sector and their motivation behind the art of storytelling. Through their memories, knowledge and unique looks, students and teachers can find first-hand inspiration for their projects and to improve their training as spectators. Guest testimonies include names such as Judith Colell, Juan Vicente Córdoba, Pavel Giroud, Abraham López Guerrero, Alberto Morais, Jorge Naranjo, Inés París, Silvia Rey, Helena Taberna, Liliana Torres and the multi-award winning Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Mother, The Kingdom, Anti-Riot), all members of the Association of Film Directors ACCION.

Also within the section SEFF Education, a film made by the primary school students of the school in Madrid Fuencisla has been presented and that, under the title A film from home, has been included in the cycle The Cinephile Window film, aimed at the educational community. A project that began in September 2019 as part of the educational program Cinema in progress, and which continued even during the pandemic, in which these children filmed their own daily experiences in such circumstances, giving rise to a collective and relevant work on the value of cinema as a vehicle of communication, expression and company for all ages.

Likewise, the cycle The Cinephile Window includes materials associated with the film Birds of Passage (Olivier Ringer, 2015), so that the academic community can reflect on and discuss the subject related to people with disabilities in the cinema. This initiative, launched thanks to the collaboration of the Audiovisual Council of Andalusia, emphasizes the dissemination of its recommendations in order to be more rigorous when dealing with stories about disability, avoiding stereotypes and attitudes that are not conducive to social inclusion. The French-Belgian film to which these materials will be applied, obtained numerous international awards, including the Giraldillo Junior at the Seville European Film Festival.
