Today, Friday, is the kick-off to the 15th edition of the Seville Festival with an opening gala presented by Macarena Gómez and with the screening of 'Non-Fiction', the funniest film by Olivier Assayas.

Today, Friday, is the kick-off to the 15th edition of the Seville Festival with an opening gala presented by Macarena Gómez and with the screening of 'Non-Fiction', the funniest film by Olivier Assayas.
Now an essential date on the filmlover’s calendar and the meeting place for the greatest talents in the European film industries, the Seville Festival raises the curtain on its 15th edition with a gala which will begin at 20:30 in the Lope de Vega Theatre, prologue to the screening of 'Non-Fiction', the latest and funniest film by Olivier Assayas, a comedy in which Juliette Binoche and Guillaume Canet are a couple who survive in the midst of infidelities, ironic looks at the world of actors and writers, and technological changes in a sea of inflated egos like the literary world. 'Non-Fiction' will compete for the Gold Giraldillo. Accompanied by two of the actresses in the film, Christa Théret and Nora Hamzawi, and by the producer Sylvie Barthet, the French filmmaker will be present at the screening and will be one of the main protagonists of the ceremony presented by Macarena Gómez, and with the music of Los Hermanos Cubero.
The opening gala will also be the occasion for the presentation of two of the honorary awards granted this year by the festival: the Swedish filmmaker Roy Andersson will receive the Honorary Giraldillo, in recognition of a long, multi-award winning career which includes films like ‘A Swedish Love Story’ and ‘A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence’. The Italian actress and director Valeria Golino will receive the City of Seville Award.
An important talk
Golino will also be the protagonist of the presentation in the Cines Nervión of her second film as director, 'Euphoria': starring Riccardo Scamarcio and Valerio Mastandrea, it recounts the process of emotional connection of two brothers in constant confrontation when they have to deal with a tough personal conflict. After the screening, Valeria Golino will participate in a talk with the audience in the cinema.
Today’s evening screenings will include the thriller 'Close Enemies', by David Oenhoffen (with Reda Kateb and Mathias Schoenaerts as childhood friends in confrontation on opposite sides of the law; the comedy 'The Trouble with You', by Pierre Salvadori (laughter and action in a plot that mixes corruption, romance and a policewoman with the face of Adele Haenel); the necessary 'Girl', by Lukas Dhont (included in the EFA Section, about an adolescent who suffers in her reality, locked in a male body) and, in The New Waves-Non Fiction, 'I See Red People', by Bojina Panayotova (a very real tragicomedy that tells of the director’s own odyssey on her return to Bulgaria, after the fall of the Iron Curtain, in search of her family roots).
Nighttime at the Festival
At night, the spectators who come to the Nervión cinemas have lots of choices: from the Official Section, although out of competition, there is 'At War', by Stéphane Brizé, with his regular actor, Vincent Lindon, as the leader of a group of workers who fight for their rights when the factory where they work announces its closure. From The New Waves-Non Fiction we can see 'In the Realm of Perfection', by Juliet Faraut, a spectacular cocktail of tennis and pure cinema with the figure of John McEnroe as leitmotif. A double proposal from EFA Selection: 'Diamantino', by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt, is a hilarious story of a footballer based on Cristiano Ronaldo, in a plot that includes comedy, love and science fiction, refugee children and a neo-fascist corporation. And 'Styx', by Wolfgang Fischer, an award winner at the Berlinale, that goes into the reality of the thousands of immigrants who cross the ocean in search of a better world in Europe.
More: fans of short films will have two sessions of Short Matters!: they are two programmes with a selection of short films that have won awards at the most outstanding European festivals, and from which will emerge the nominees for the European Film Awards
And beyond the seats, when the cinema rests, music makes its appearance: the SEFF Night programme offers, from 00:30 in the Discoteca Holiday, the performance by DJ Bombín + Maribel & Sebastián Amenizadores. Because shaking your booty isn’t at odds with culture and good cinema.
