If you put in a blender Cristiano Ronaldo, Zoolander, giant hairy puppies, pink clouds, genetic manipulation, millionaire accounts in Panama, spies incognito, yachts and two cursed identical twins, add a pinch of comedy, thriller, lover story and science fiction and press the button, what comes out is Diamantino. A satirical, incisive, delirious smoothie that tells the story of Diamantino (Carloto Cotta, Tabú), a football star who falls into disgrace and into the hands of a mysterious neo-fascist corporation. Gabriel Abrantes
He was born in the United States in 1984, and studied in the Cooper Union in New York, the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and Le Fresnoy. He lives and works in Lisbon. His short films have been shown at festivals such as the Berlinale, Locarno, Venice and Toronto, winning numerous awards. He has had retrospectives in the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the BAFICI, the Sicilia Queer and at Belfort. Diamantino, his first feature film, won the Grand Prix at the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes.
Daniel Schmidt
He was born in New Haven in 1984, and studied at the University of New York. His films have been shown throughout the world, having their premieres at festivals like the Berlinale, Rotterdam and Venice, and have received awards such as the Golden Pardi di Domani at Locarno. His works have been seen in or have been commissions for the most important art centres and galleries in Europe. Diamantino is his first feature film.
