Regina Pessoa is a key artist who has shaped the course of contemporary Portuguese animation. Her work is characterized by exquisite aesthetic care and an autobiographical focus. Throughout her career, she has received awards at international festivals and has been featured in various exhibitions. Her notable short film Tío Tomas, a contabilidade dos dias (2019) pays tribute to her eccentric uncle, who taught her to appreciate drawing, all interwoven with melancholic memories of her childhood; this work was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Annecy Festival in 2019.
In this exhibition, Regina will explore her unique career, which began with the short film A Noite (1999), the first in her trilogy about childhood, followed by História Trágica com Final Feliz (2006) and Kali, o pequeno vampiro (2021). Regina Pessoa’s films are deeply rooted in her childhood memories, with each one delving into a different facet of her mental landscape. This intimate dimension of her films is visually expressed through her instantly recognizable graphic style.
The exhibition invites visitors to discover Regina Pessoa's sensitive and poignant universe through a selection of works from her private collection, as part of the tribute to Portuguese animation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. This showcase features some of her most prominent works, offering a unique insight into her artistic vision and autobiographical approach.
