This masterclass features Asimina Proedrou, director of Behind the Haystacks, a film that explores into the corrupt and patriarchal society of a lakeside village in northern Greece. The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of three family members recounting a pivotal incident, exposing the repercussions of their desires and prejudices.

The film also critiques the hypocrisy of Western societies that, while professing humanitarian values, become complicit in the exploitation and displacement of individuals. Through its non-linear and stylistic storytelling, Behind the Haystacks illuminates the daily struggles of people striving to survive in a corrupt world, revealing their humanity and beauty without passing judgment.

Despite facing significant technical challenges during filming amid the COVID-19 lockdown, the production transformed these limitations into unique creative and stylistic opportunities. The film has been selected as Greece's entry for Best International Film at the 2024 Oscars.
