With her chameleon-like ability to get under the skin of her characters, Noomi Rapace (Lamb, Prometheus) steps into the shoes of Mother Teresa of Calcutta during a pivotal week of her young life. At 37-years-old—before becoming a global icon—she finally leaves the convent to found her own order, only to face a human and ethical dilemma that will put her faith to the ultimate test. At once audacious and exuberant, Teona Strugar Mitevska’s (God Exists, Her name is Petrunija, award winner at SEFF 2019) latest feature showcases her evolution as a filmmaker alongside a curious connection to Mother Teresa, born in her native Macedonia. Mitevska immerses us in the icon’s stream of consciousness, revealing the inner workings of a woman who is: strict, selfless, ambitious, affectionate, obsessive and almost superhumanly maternal. With punk metal as a driving force (punctuated by tracks from the likes of Tool, Lordi and Black Sabbath), this no-holds-barred drama portrays a complex, unique and decidedly unsaintly character, capable of leading a whole army of women, and more.
