As Godard would say, everything’s just great in a small picturesque Breton village, proud of its centuries-old tradition and crêpes, which is getting ready to welcome a Ukrainian refugee family... when the family that arrives is Syrian. Oops. In her seventh feature film as a director, Julie Delpy (Skylab, Special Jury Prize at San Sebastian) constructs a sharp satire on first- and second-class solidarity, blending inspired dialogue with unsettling truths about integration. An affectionate yet unsparing portrayal of the village’s characters – however uncouth – sets the tone for this insolent comedy that humours hasty political prejudices and delivers several in-your-face moments, set to the music of Mozart and Beethoven – a symphony of social folly.
