At 17-years-old, Fatima is the youngest of three daughters in a loving Franco-Algerian household. As she embarks on her studies at university in Paris, she finds herself exploring new experiences, torn between her attraction to women and remaining faithful to her family and heritage. Can she stay true to herself when faith, identity and desire seem impossible to reconcile? In a world of deeply rooted stereotypes where judgement of others is the norm, Hafsia Herzi’s third feature film presents us with a profoundly universal tale. Adapted from Fatima Daas’ debut novel, Herzi both writes and directs in this moving portrayal of a young practicing Muslim exploring her homosexuality in Paris’ banlieues. Nadia Melliti in the role of Fatima was awarded Best Actress at Cannes 2025, where the film also won the Queer Palm.
