ANDREA GETS A DIVORCE
In the plains of deep Austria, no one can hear you scream. A provincial policewoman decides to make a U-turn in life and end her marriage when she runs into – and runs over – her almost ex-husband, fleeing the scene feeling guilty until she learns that an almost ex-alcoholic RE teacher claims to be the perpetrator of the crime. The wry, bittersweet humour is the trademark of Austrian actor and comedian Josef Hader’s second feature as a director, in which he co-stars with Birgit Minichmayr (Everyone Else) and Thomas Schubert (Afire). A demystifying glimpse into rural microcosms and roadside towns, where “women move away and men are getting weirder”, and where the laughable and the pathetic intersect daily... until they ultimately knock us down, as in this brilliant tragicomedy.
