THE SEFF AND THE TALLINN BLACK NIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL WILL PREMIERE THE NEW FILMS BY SANTI AMODEO AND LILIANA TORRES

'Las gentiles' and '¿Qué hicimos mal?' will have their world premiere in Seville and their international premiere at the festival in the Estonian capital.

Seville, 18 October 2021 - Throughout its 18 editions, the Seville European Film Festival has been a window onto the most daring and innovative voices in Spanish cinema. This year, Liliana Torres from Barcelona and Santi Amoedo from Seville will experience in the Andalusian capital the world premiere of their two new films, ¿Qué hicimos mal? and Las Gentiles, before they both travel to the Estonian capital for their international premiere at the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), one of the most important film festivals in Northern Europe.

In ¿Qué hicimos mal?, Liliana Torres, whose international premiere will take place in Tallinn on November 19th, is not only the director and writer of the film, but also the protagonist, giving life to a distorted version of herself. She is a film director in the midst of a relationship crisis who decides to visit her old boyfriends, scattered in different cities, to find answers to her inner emptiness and to the question that gives the film its title. ¿Qué hicimos mal? reflects on sentimental relationships in these emotionally convulsive times and on the search for a utopian happiness. This is Torres' third feature film after Family Tour (2013), which won the Special Jury Prize at the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, and the documentary Hayati (2018).

Another key name featured in this eighteenth edition is Santi Amodeo, who will have the international premiere in the Estonian capital of Las gentiles on November 20th. Amodeo, with a career spanning 20 years, was one of the key figures in the renewal of Andalusian cinema at the turn of the century. A member of the Cinexín generation alongside Alberto Rodríguez (with whom he co-directed the short Bancos and the feature film El factor Pilgrim, their debut), Jesús Ponce, Paco R. Baños and the producer Gervasio Iglesias, Amodeo returns to his origins and recovers the independent spirit of films such as Astronautas (2003) and Cabeza de perro (2006). The Sevillian filmmaker highlights the "creative freedom" enjoyed when shooting Las Gentiles and reflects on the lives of teenagers and the impact that social networks have on them. Starring an all-new cast of new faces such as África de la Cruz and Paula García, and shot in the capital of Seville in super 16 mm. The crew of Las Gentiles will also compete for the Giraldillo de Oro (Golden Giraldillo) alongside prominent names such as the director of photography Álex Catalán (also a member of the Cinexín Generation).
